THE CNT OCCUPIES THE OFFICES OF THE MEDICAL EMERGENCIES SYSTEM TO DENOUNCE LABOUR HARASSMENT IN THE SERVICE

For the last few months, the CNT has been denouncing the grave situation of harassment against some of the members of our union in the 061 service in the Medical Emergencies System (SEM), managed by the ATENTO company. During this time we have made continued calls to the company and SEM to solve the problem in a satisfactory manner. These calls for dialogue have been constantly ignored. The situation reached a limit to which we considered it necessary to occupy the SEM. About thirty people gathered on the afternoon of Friday, May 13 inside SEM to occupy it for two hours, denouncing the situation that our union has had to tolerate. The protest took place without any incidents. Two banners were hung denouncing the harassment and persecution of the members of the CNT in the 061 service. The occupation was meant to remind ATENTO and SEM that this union does not consider it acceptable that these entities wash their hands of the problem and that it is essential to reach an agreement to find a solution to the problem as soon as possible. We hope that our visit made their management think about the irrationality of its positions and and the inability to silence and neutralize the CNT, even with the dirtiest practices.

The CNT wants to bring the practices of ATENTO of trying to intimidate workers who organize unions to the public's attention. ATENTO is a multinational known around the world for its union repression and
disregard for the rights of their workers. In the case of management of 061, this situation is aggravated by the fact that this situation occurs in a service essential to the public and paid with public funds.

However, in the last few months, the actions of the company have taken on a more serious nature. After reporting her affiliation to the CNT, the General Secretary of the union was forced to undergo constant harassment and persecution, which resulted that she had to take sick leave. Evidently this is a completely unacceptable situation. Our union has asked repeatedly to meet with ATENTO and SEM, encoutering total indifference and a lack of will to solve this situation. For these reasons, the CNT will continue with its mobilizations, in the struggle for a medical emergency service with dignified working conditions, respectful of the union rights of its workers.
