The CNT Declares a Strike at the Silice Company in Merida

To avoid more layoffs, for the payment of salaries and against degrading treatment.

The CNT union in the company SILICE TECHNOLOGY AND SERVICES from Merida, which administers IT systems and free software, has called for a strike to avoid the dismantling of the current staff and to demand payment of wages earned.

According to the CNT, all attempts to try to solve the problems have been unsuccessul since the company has always refused to deal with the union directly. This irresponsible attitude on the part of the management has left the workers with no other option but to take decisive action, says the CNT.

The CNT announces that the strike will start on the 23 of May and will last a week, pausing on the 27th and resuming on June 6.

The CNT says it does not understand the stance of the company because several projects are pending completion and payment depends on this, nor does it understand the polices of dismissals and harassment since it is driving out qualified staff and substituting it with "interns", who do not doubt their possibilities but do not have a proven track record on the staff. In this sense, the CNT reminds that currently 6 workers were fired (4 from the CNT) and that 2 people left the firm voluntarily because of the impossible work and health conditions.

Finally, the CNT calls for the responsibility of the Public Administration when they contract firms such as  SÍLICE TECHNOLOGY AND SERVICES to monitor and control the public funds spent on construction or service contracts, so that it aids the creation of employment, as it is designated for, and not used for other things.
