The strike was aimed against the war, the participation of Italy in the intervention in Libya and against the social and economic policies of the government. The organizers declared April 15 a "Day of Rage".
The most widespread strike took place in transport. It started at 9PM the day before and lasted the whole day. Some trains were cancelled and municipal transport was affected in different cities. The strike also involved medical services, education and a number of other sectors.
Demonstrations took place in Milan, Turin, Palermo, Bologna, Genova, Rome and other cities - in all more than 20.
