Campaign for Free Education

The Education Union of ASI has begun a campaign for free education.  The goal of the campaign is to start fighting for free education,  available to all. The campaign will also promote the direct-democracy in student organization on the principle of student assemblies.

Higher education is not accessible to all social strata, thus creating an elitist system where only the privileged have access to it. Knowledge has become a commodity and its price is determined in the same way as any other commodity on the market - by the relationship of supply and demand. "Attractive" Universities are more expensive than the "less attractive". University students not only  purchase their knowledge on the market but also educate themselves according to the demands of the market, which is the goal of the current reform. Education has become a lucrative business, and students pay only not the costs of teaching but to fill up some fat cats' pockets. Colleges are no longer scientific and educational institutions, but a company for getting rich. Teachers are no longer scholars and teaching staff, but have become dealers in diplomas. We believe that the knowledge we have today emerged as a product of the experience of many generations and should be used for the progress of the whole society, not for the enrichment of certain interest groups. Therefore the main objective of the Education Unions of ASI is free and universal education - education that will be fully publicly funded.
Most of the student protests which in the past few years have had demands such as the reduction of tuition fees, increases in  budgetary allowances etc., were unsuccessful. As a rule, at crucial times, student representatives - various careerists and young politicians from the Students Parliament who led protests - betrayed students' interests and suppressed protests. This will happen again and again until we organize independently - without the student parliament and those who manipulate our protests and stifle any voice of dissent. Protest should be guided by student unions which are public and in which each student will have the right to vote and express their opinion. Only then can we prevent manipulation and sabotaging the protests.
We invite all interested students to contact us and actively participate in the Campaign for Free Education.
