The Labour Conflict at Complutense University in Madrid Continues

The actions of the CNT-AIT against cuts and job insecurity at Complutense University in Madrid continue. The labour dispute over the withdrawal of fiscal consolidation plan and the contracting grant holders is now also joined by the struggle for the reinstatement of two comrades sacked in February following the non-recognition by the University of collaboration scholarships as labor.

The union at CUM, supported by the Madrid Federation of the CNT-AIT, protested on March 2 in order to denounce the two dismissals. The informational picket was peaceful, but, as has become customary, the manager and the director of building called the security staff in a further attempt to criminalize the workers in struggle. On 5 March, the Union of Education and Social Intervention of the CNT-AIT Madrid and the Federation of Anarchist Youth of Madrid carried out a joint action at the AULA educational fair. They boycotted the stand of the CUM and distributed 2,000 leaflets referring to the labour dispute. There was no shortage of workers and students interested in the protest.  People at the CUM stand at AULA were exploited, without a contract, without Social Security and without pay, a situation that has been reported to Labour Inspection by this section, as it is a blatantly illegal and an unacceptable consolidation of precariousness.

Finally, on 9 March, an information event was held at the Faculty of Philosophy, although the Chancellor had blocked the call launched by the Union to the entire university community, in a strategy of anti-union discrimination which started when the CNT-AIT began a series of protests in the CUM.

With these latest actions, the anarcho-syndicalist union hopes to have made it  clear to the Rector and the Director of CUM that it will escalate the conflict if it does not stop its policy of exploitation, layoffs and union discrimination.

NOT ONE STEP BACK, THIS CONFLICT WE WILL WIN!
