Press Release by »Liebig14«: Thank You!

This is a big Thank You! to all supporters, who helped us in such an amazing way during the last hours, days and weeks. In particular, February 2^nd has shown: we are many and we are strong!

Us, the ex-inhabitants of Liebig14 would like to say thanks to all who wrote texts, spread leaflets, mobilised their friends, made public action - creative and resolute – and thereby demonstrated that we wont sit back when one of the last remaining places of non-commercial culture and collective life gets destroyed. Thousands of people achieved unbelievable things.

Our resistance did not only aim at Liebig14, it was about all autonomous housing projects, about all resilient tenants and it was about our right of city, which needs to be formed by the will of the people and not by capitalist interests. Your support for Liebig 14 and your anger against total commercialisation of our cities has been bigger than most people expected.
Damages of property – real estate businesses, luxury-shops, state and police – exceeded the damage caused on May 1nd in target orientation and costs.

The pigs lost control for hours. Many groups of hundreds of people went right into the centre of Berlin. There have been so many actions, it is impossible to overview.

There have been solidarity demonstrations in whole Germany, in Kiel, Dortmund, Bielefeld, Hamburg, Leipzig, Göttingen, Tübingen and other German cities, in Kopenhagen, even in Japan and Peru.

Occupations of houses occurred daily in Berlin before February, 2^nd. There have been so many creative, colourful and militant actions; there have been so many friendly emails, letters, hugs and solidarity-streetart: we can't believe it. This gave us strength and we have seen we are not alone.

And more than everything else, we have seen that we are stronger than police violence and economic interests. We'll build up on this experience.

Let us remain fighting for a city in our hands. We need new housing projects, gardens and graffiti instead of real estate business and car lofts. “The political climate in Berlin is in danger”, said Körting. This gives us hope.....

Let's push things forward.
