USI calls a general strike in January 28th

The trade union Unione Sindacale Italiana (USI-AIT) and its unions USI-IUR, USI-Health, USI-Postals, USI-LEL, USI-Social Cooperatives, USI-Arts and Crafts, calls a general strike of all public and private categories for the whole workday of January 28th 2011.

The general strike is called particularly against all legal measures and agreements between past and present social partners destined to limit the freedom of strike, hiring and representation, but also:
- Against all past and present legal measures destined to the attack to workers' income and conditions;
- Against any attempt to make only workers pay for the costs of the crisis with the increase of the age for retirement and blockages of wages in comparison to inflation;
- For broad increases in wages, independently of business productivity, and retirement and guaranties of income and adequate services to everyone, recovering resources from tax evasion and profits, continuously broadening social benefits to all workers;
- For the elimination of military expenses and against warmonger and securitarian logic; the savings from the cutting of this useless expense could be used to create new jobs;
- For the elimination of all forms of labour austerity and the indefinitely hiring of all workers in an austerity situation and under the table, because work needs strong investments in stability;
- For the abolition of the link between housing permission and work contract, the removal of the security package and the closing of CIE (formerly CPT).

The only workers absent from the strike will be those who execute essential services, as according to law.
